Coffee Cake is a little walk down Crouchway Broadway at number 28. I had been past this glass shop front piled high with meringues a few times, and was determined last weekend to stop by for Sunday breakfast.
Crouch End in North London is packed full of cafes and cake shops, no doubt bolstered by its large population of mums and ‘ladies who lunch’. You’d expect the quality to be high just to survive in this place, and the pastries didn’t disappoint – nice wonky shapes, moist and fresh from the oven.
The coffee could have been better, and certainly couldn’t rival Gail’s bakery coffee down the road. My partner had a cooked breakfast, which came with tonnes of mushrooms and a bowl of salad. Hmm.
Verdict? Good selection of pastries, perhaps better taken home to eat.
